When I was asked to paint roseate spoonbills, I didn’t know much about them. While spoonbills are plentiful in Florida, Roseate spoonbills are rare. I also happened to have a new can of vivid hot pink spray paint I wanted to experiment with, and these extraordinary birds gave me the perfect subject. As I painted these beautiful birds, I was struck by the way their brilliant color both softens and electrifies the landscape. This piece is one of my surprise favorites – one I hope you also enJOY.
