When I was asked to paint roseate spoonbills, I didn’t know much about them. While spoonbills are plentiful in Florida, Roseate spoonbills are rare. I also happened to have a new can of vivid hot pink spray paint I wanted to experiment with, and these extraordinary birds gave me the perfect subject. As I painted these beautiful birds, I was struck by the way their brilliant color both softens and electrifies the landscape. This piece is one of my surprise favorites – one I hope you also enJOY!

In creating this piece, I invite collectors into the heart of Africa — to feel its pulse, its history, and its spirit. The zebra is an African icon - so much more than funny, little striped horses. Here, the zebra leaps beyond those surface perceptions, revealing richness, strength and complexity. Look closely at their stripes and you will see an entire spectrum — blues, purples, silvers, browns, and pinks — a reminder that individuality is never confined to first impressions. Surrounding the Zebra are traditional African symbols meaning humility, strength, nurturing, faithfulness, and God. It is a celebration of the might and beauty of Africa which we can all enJOY.
